Mary Jo Wylie lives in Howell, Michigan and has been involved with some form of textile art for 15 years. She has devoted the past two years to punchneedle embroidery. The similarity to hooked rugs, in miniature form, is what led her in this direction. Her passions for American history, rug hooking and primitive antiques are key influences in her primitive punchneedle design process.
Her designs are historically inspired by some form of antique dating to the 18th, 19th and early 20th century. Many are of antique hooked rugs, coverlets and quilts. She ages all of her work and uses recycled material when framing to give a more authentic appearance. The finished pieces compliment primitive antique decorating so well.
Wylie emphasizes teaching and offers a unique pattern line for those who are interested in learning this wonderful art form. She intentionally keeps her finished pieces limited to insure integrity and value of her work.
