Justin Kauffman was born and raised in northern Indiana. While he was studying the Bible and religion at Anderson University, he learned to love creating furniture by working in the small shop of his wife’s grandfather. Kauffman went on to study the Old Testament and Biblical languages at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, Massachusetts, just north of Boston, while he continued to design and build furniture.
After completing two master’s degrees at GCTS, Kauffman decided to pursue furniture making. He enrolled at the oldest trade school in America, North Bennett Street School, in its renowned cabinet and furniture-making department to refine his craft. He learned about tools, methods, joinery, and design in 18th-Century furniture making.
Kauffman applies these skills in his business, Kauffman Fine Furniture, where he designs and builds both fine period reproduction furniture and more modern styles. He lives and works in Noblesville, Indiana, with his wife, Audra, and sons, Daniel, James, and Joel.
