Rick Hamelin has been a potter for more than three decades and owner of Pied Potter Hamelin Redware for nearly as long. His love for New England redware developed at Old Sturbridge Village, where he learned the importance of preserving redware’s history.
His collaborations with his wife, Gariné Arakelian of Kulina Folk Art, include her decorating his thrown wares and their creating a website as a resource for forums and collections on American redware. This resource is devoted to informing people and directing them to important redware collections, programs, and lectures in their area.
He is recognized by the Massachusetts Cultural Council as a traditional artisan and presents pottery workshops throughout the year.
