Portrait of Jacquelyn Lee Trone

Jackie L. Trone began her pursuits when she started the restoration of her 1740 farmstead, "Colonial Yard," near Valley Forge, Pennsylvania in 1968. While researching the restoration process at Valley Forge National Park, she learned how to do many of the renovations herself. And because 18th century artwork and accessories were not readily available or affordable, she learned to produce many of the art forms from fraktur to schrienschitte and Brides' Boxes to Dolls. Her work was quickly recognized and requests were made to purchase her work. Her career as a traditional artist began.

Trone expanded these efforts into a full-time career. In 1987, she began to work in oils and has developed a strong following of collectors. Using evocative oils, she creates genre paintings of former times, chicks in a barnyard, timeless sheep, still lifes and portraits. Layering the paint like painters of earlier centuries, she achieves the depth and look of the 18th century paintings. The oils, original Dolls and watercolors are now the mainstays of her career. Her watercolors are done on vintage paper and in period frames. Due to the growing demand for her watercolors, she began in 1998 to offer limited edition prints of original watercolors. These prints are in small editions and have proven to be popular with many collectors. Her dolls are hand sculpted with sawdust- stuffed cloth bodies and period children's clothes. The heads and hands are covered with fine kidskin and hand-stitched.

Trone's work has been in the Metropolitan Museum of Folk Art in New York. She has been featured in Early American Life's Directory of Traditional American Crafts for over 16 years. Both Jackie and Colonial Yard have appeared in Country Living, Country Home, General Store, and on two segments of Home and Garden Television's "Country at Home" series hosted by Mary Emmerling. As well she has been featured in The Philadelphia Inquirer, Times Herald, The Mercury and other regional news media.

Trone continues to produce original oil and watercolor artwork in antique frames, period dolls, bride's boxes and her special print series in her studio at Colonial Yard. Jackie appears at shows annually- such as : The Historic Waterford Festival in Waterford VA; Designer Craftsman Show in Valley Forge PA; and The American Craftsman Shows, Downingtown, PA.
