Sharan J. Mason was encouraged in her appreciation of early American decorative and performing arts by her childhood imagination. While she was still young, music held her attention, but in later years, her formal training as a classical violinist gave way to an interest in the decorative arts.

Mason has explored many new avenues in traditional fine and folk art. She works in pottery, sculpture, chalkware, Indonesian batik cloth dyeing, and hand-painted canvas floorcloths, and at times she mixes media.

Mason sells her works at various invitational shows. As principal in Olde Virginea Floorcloth & Trading Company, she coordinates two annual crafts events—the Colonial Craftsman’s Faire at Endview Plantation, Newport News, and Old Virginia Christmas Fair at Smith’s Fort Plantation, Surry, Virginia. Each celebrates the heritage of the first colonists who arrived in Jamestown, Virginia, more than four hundred years ago, as well as those who came after.

Mason lives in the Historic Triangle of Virginia.
