Jo Anne Farrell has been making baskets since 1990 and specializes in traditional baskets (especially twill pattern baskets) and Nantucket Lightship baskets.
Her traditional baskets are made with rattan. Their handles are oak, hickory or ash and many are hand carved. The rattan can be left natural, stained or dyed in a wide range of colors.
The Nantucket Lightship baskets are woven over a mold using cane and a wooden base. Her bases and lids use exotic woods as well as cherry, walnut or oak. Sometimes she incorporates stone such as turquoise or malachite in the natural crevices of the wood. The knobs and other adornments are usually bone but she will use ivory on request. Her Lightship baskets are sold on Nantucket Island.
Farrell also takes orders for special baskets for special occasions.
