Wood Carving

Wood carving includes both useful and decorative pieces (recognizing that many modern decorative items were once made for work—think wooden decoys). Treenware is wooden tableware, carved from trees, and (with the right finish—make sure your treen has a non-toxic finish before using it for food) suitable for use in today's kitchens. Handwork makes any carving expensive, so even many of the useful items are best seen a display pieces that will give a period air to any setting. Many carved pieces are brightened by decorative painting, but in this category the emphasis is on the carving and shape.
