Pottery

Pottery embraces a number of traditions, most of which fit in the rainbow of 'ware' names, such as redware, yellow-ware, even green-ware. The skills requires are twofold, both as a potter in turning and sculpting works from clay and as a decorative artist in embellishing them with glaze and designs. This category includes both items reproduced from period originals and those with new designs inspired (and informed) by period traditions. Care is required here. Traditional glazes often incorporated toxic lead. Some decorative potters used such glazes. Insure the glazes in any pottery intended for holding food are food-safe.
