Windsor furniture reflects one distinct style that originated in America that's characterized by multiple thin spindles. Originally, Windsor furniture was the patio furniture of the period, often used outdoors. When new, it was not 'fine furniture.' Modern makers follow their predecessors by building chairs many different ways. Spindles may be turned or shaven (purist prefer the latter), the other pieces, such as seat and legs, may be carved or turned by hand or (as was done 200 years ago) bought from an outside supplier. Often period Windsor furniture was not painted.
