The purpose of floor coverings is obvious but their range is not. Floorcloths combine a textile base with bright paints and a durable, multi-layer varnish finish. Hooked rugs wrap strips of rags in a coarsely woven backing to create decorative patterns. Other rugs may be loomed. Often the hand-made textiles are meant as floor coverings only nominally and are best used as display items to dress up a tabletop or wall.
