Period clothing represents the material, style, and technology of a historic period. By their nature, textiles are short-lived and these reproductions are often as close as one can come to what real people wore two centuries ago. We prefer to see hand-stitching (even home-stitchers of the period worked to standards of today's professionals) and original materials—for example, recognizing cotton became widely available only in the 19th Century and thus is inappropriate for 18th Century wear.
