A box is a container that can hold things, a classification that allows wide variety. Most popular among period crafters is the Shaker box, a two-piece over creation that comprises a flat wooden bottom wrapped with a single thin bent strip of wood fastened to itself with thin copper tacks. A tight-fitting lid of matching design and a coat of varnish or paint completes the box. Other boxes entered in the category are more conventionally square, sometimes with dove-tailed corners, decoratively decorated to emulate period originals.
