Olde Virginea Floorcloth & Trading Co.
| Sharan J. Mason developed an appreciation for the early American decorative and performing arts when her childhood curiosity encouraged her appreciation of these mediums. While she was still young, music held her attention, but, in later years her formal training as a classical violinist gave way to an interest in the decorative arts.
Mason has explored many new avenues in traditional craft forms, both fine & folk art. The making of pottery, sculpture, chalkware, batik (Indonesian cloth dyeing) and handpainting canvas floorcloths are some of the mediums that she works in, sometimes
blending materials
Mason is currently showing at various "invitational" shows and
coordinating two outdoor events in the Historic Triangle of Virginia
where she lives. As principal in Olde Virginea Floorcloth & Trading Company she coordinates two annual craft events--"Colonial Craftsman's Faire" at Endview Plantation, Newport News, and "Old Virginia Christmas Fair" at Smith's Fort Plantation, Surry, Virginia. Each celebrates the heritage of those first colonists who arrived in
Jamestown, Virginia, over four hundred years ago in 1607 as well as those who came after.
