The Directory of Traditional American Crafts^®  is conducted under the auspices of Early American Life magazine, which publishes the Directory and its companion Holiday Directory each year. 

The Directory is administered by personnel separate from the editorial and sales (advertising) staff of Early American Life. In other words, it is neither ad-driven nor editorial-driven but exists as an entity unto itself. Buying an ad or appearing in an article in the magazine is no guarantee of selection for the Directory. Although the magazine may solicit ads from participants, we also solicit from those working in the same fields who do not participate.  

The magazine does make up whatever deficit remains in the cost of operating the Directory after the entry fees have been exhausted as its part in supporting the goals and purpose of the Directory.
